BBC reporter spreading out the word about Romanian animals' real life. A documentary about ROLDA .

Cathie P.,a freelance reporter and journalist for BBC News spent a week at the ROLDA shelter ,volunteering(walking the dogs, painting),recording interviews with local people for broadcasting the real situation of Romanian homeless animals .

She interviewed the MITTAL 's VP; discussing with animal'lovers e.g. ROLDA volunteers, our excellent vet.,Peace Corp volunteers,...

A whole week she worked hard to record ,being passionate to make Romanian animals'voice heard internationally.

She also visited one of the local pounds ,where she was socked by the reality ,the miserable life of imprisoned strays.

Willie Nugent from Armagh ,Northern Ireland "shake hands" with ROLDA dogs !

We were fortunate to meet this incredible Irish man, 58 years old ,named Willie Nugent ,who spent the past 33 years of his life helping different charities around the World with all sorts of original fundraising events.

He succeded rasing over a million dollars for humanitarian causes...

" Shaking paws around the World " is his newest fundraisng idea, transformed immediatly into a successful program that already helped shelters in New York, Liverpool ,Athens, Moscow, Barbados , all over Ireland, Tel Aviv, etc...

Willie N. is proudly one of this year winners of IFAW's "Animal Action Award".

Emergency needs at ROLDA shelter

Described as "the best shelter" in Eastern Europe, it need to be maintained and renovated with regularity in order to be an enough comfortable home for sick, abused animals in short term or long term treatment.

Thanks to our supporters, we were able last year to buy more tiles for all the kennels from the second block to be tiled, easy cleaned and disinfected, but some of the fence and the kennels' wood need repairs.

Peace Corp volunteer helping the whole summer at ROLDA shelter .

Maria D., a US Peace Corp volunteering for two years in Galati ,as a high school teacher became a constant helper at our shelter.

Maria admitted that she was shocked to see so many strays in Galati, moreover shocked about the differences between humans 'mentality in Galati and in parallel -in New York (her city).

She discussed with us the possibility of beginning a high school education program ,starting with her classes. Being impressed of what she saw in our shelter but also realizing how much we are struggling to solve all daily problems ,she promised to bring other Peace Corp volunteers on a permanently base ,to help us.

Plus ,she offered to volunteer her time this summer -because dogs are her passion here and back in her home country .

Thank you, Maria for your good thoughts ,for offering your support and for dedicating your time to our dogs!

Help us to purchase a land outside Braila to build a sanctuary for abused animals !

Many thanks to MARS Romania for donating an important quantity of dry dogfood to our shelter !

2,000 homeless dogs from MITTAL have now a new chance to live safely !

MITTAL leaders are probably the only ones in Romania understanding and willing to contribute to humanely solve strays overpopulation crises from the steel plant 'garden .

ROLDA agreement with MITTAL is that we are collecting the dogs and transport them safely in the shelter, from where they will be adopted.

Because the high number of existing dogs and because adopting dogs in Romania is a very slow process we have to find quickly solutions to start international dogs adoptions across Europe. We don't want our shelter to become a dogs' prison, where more and more dogs to be crowded and be kept in kennels, with no hope for a normal future but a shelter where dogs to feel happy and well cared, where dogs to have a new chance to find an adoptive family.

We are asking for assistance of international animals organizations and individuals, animal' lovers willing to offer a loving new home for one of our sheltered dogs.

Past experiences showed that strays are brutally killed in different Romanian companies' gardens, when they are too many and start annoying different people.

MITTAL changed this policy by offering a chance to poor animals (by building a shelter) and to local community, to all of us-animal' lovers willing to get involved, being tired to see abuses and cruelty against animals.

By adopting from our shelter a homeless soul, you will save more than a life and by making our program successful ,you'll encourage others to take MITTAL exemple and solve humanely the strays overpopulation problem.

Billboard promoting ROLDA' s message in Galati (May, 2007)

Billboard message: "Always at your feet. Always close to your heart!"

ROLDA helps the local community by providing free sterilization and free treatments for flea & ticks control !

In spring/summer 2007 , in collaboration with " Veti Med " veterinary clinic and thanks to DVM Gingarasu 's efforts ,the Galati community benefited of free external parasites control 'products .

This successful program wouldn't be possible without our sister organization, ROLDA UK .

Many thanks to Mr. Robert Smith (helping us continuously in the past years with intl. transportation ), to Mrs. Veronica Titchener (ROLDA representative) and Bob Martin UK !

Many thanks to "Laughing Dogs" for their important donation of supplement dog food/ biscuits !

Their generosity help save hundreds of lives! Your donation can save a dog' life , too!

Starting March, 2007 ROLDA initiate a new kind of educational program, developed on more levels (please see our Education Campaign ' section for details)

Our cat, FULGUTA adopted in Holland !

Fulguta is a white, gorgeous cat- presented a while back on ROLDA s website for adoption . A lovely lady, great cat' lover from Holland , who also rescued 9 cats from Greece, decided to offer her a chance .

Introducing our new vet. -DVM Gingarasu

Dr.Gingarasu is one of the best vets in Galati , recognized in surrounding areas and even abroad ,he has a license in homeopathy , specialized in echograpy, dermatology in France, specialized in urology in Italy .

He was invited to few international conferences, speaks French and English . He is doing for ROLDA low-cost veterinary work (all kind of treatments and surgeries, spay/ neuters), he also donated part of his free time giving veterinary tips to ROLDA volunteers - this is extremely rare thing in Romania because most of the vets are greedy and for them, the notion of "charitable work" doesn't practically exists, they charge the same tariff for animals with owners as they are charging the non-profit groups !
