"Take me HOME" Campaign.
Successful education campaign in local media ,17.03-17.04.2008
ROLDA and its long lasting partners, the local newspaper "Viata Libera" and "Arcelor Mittal" Galati - organized a contest addressed to entire local community,to humans inspired by their pets and/or animals they rescued.
Animal lovers were invited to send a brief story (max 30 lines) about how their pet influenced at some point the "writer" life, impressing with their sincere love, loyalty and intelligence or teaching us a lesson about what real commitment and devotion means.
Mihai Cristian Secara (12 years old) is the winner of the contest organized in partnership with local media.
The touching letter Mihai wrote about his parrot BOBI was selected between other 85 letters we received and impressed the jury - a true love' lesson of an abandoned child speaking about his pet with sincerity and pure commitment.
Between all 86 letters received describing its heroes ( 32 cats, 21 dogs,10 parrots, few sparrows) we selected :
II place: Nico the doggy written by Mihai Stroila
III place:Miky the cat written by Mirela Catalina Felea
4 honorable mentions: Tanu the cat, written by Oana Lorelei Lungu;Iurithe boxer, written by Ovidiu Besoiu ;Grasuthe cat, written by Carmen Popescu and Alin the puppy written by Ortansa Zlata.

About zoonosis and the importance of vaccination /flea & tick control and de-worming
ROLDA initiate a new kind of educational program, developed on more levels, not just presenting the importance of sterilization of homeless animals' overpopulation.
Working closely with our veterinary,DVM Gingarasu Cornel ,we start focusing on an aspect that seemed ignored by Romanian Government and by most Romanians animals organizations : raising awareness about the importance of vaccination and prevention of spreading disease (from animals to humans ,from animals to others animals).
Dangerous disease (respiratory disease, parvovirus infection, ...) can be prevented if we learn to properly care our pets. There are numerous disease transmissible from dogs and cats to humans, fungi infections caused by bites, worms and ticks.
If every animal' lover becomes a responsible pet owner, learning to vaccinate and de-worming his pet, this would prevent some very dangerous illnesses to transmit further, that can affect not only his pet ,but also himself or the entire community.
Properly taking care of your pet is a simple attitude ,a civic act that proves the owner 'responsibility or neglected, becomes a problem to entire society !
Although ROLDA has never had a single case of rabies since its inception, rabies is a danger because it is endemic in the wild mammal population, especially foxes. The threat of rabies is a persuasive reason for the Romanian Government and the European Union to find the political will to get to grips with the stray dog problem once and for all, especially since Romania's borders with the EU disappeared in 2007.
The three ROLDA' s education themes help Romanians to learn how to take care of a puppy /adult dog ,the importance of vaccination (anti-rabies and polyvalent vaccines) and the importance of sterilization in order to humanely control the animals overpopulation.
ROLDA Education Program 'themes :
1. Dog & puppy health
2. Keeping Pets & People healthy
3. Animals overpopulation control
What YOU can do
- keeping pet areas clean,
- controlling disease-carrying insects
- getting regular vaccinations and veterinary care for pets.

ROLDA 's educational materials promoting respect for all living creatures, animal welfare and the importance of sterilization.
DOWNLOADABLE ROLDA MATERIELS:
We offer our brochures, leaflets and flyers free of charge in various places in Galatzi (e.g. our vet's office) and we consider this program a very important part of our daily work.
Education is the key to people understanding why they should respect all creatures. We also stress the importance of "spay/neuter," unknown words in Romania until very recently--words that can make the difference in the worldwide pet overpopulation problem.
