ROLDA,LOOKING AHEAD...

GALATI -- Romanian League in Defense of Animals founder Dana Costin slipped her identity card into the scanner at the main entrance to the Arcelor Mittal steel mill, was recognized and cleared for admission, and we drove inside to count dogs.
For the next hour we cruised slowly up and down miles of paved streets and graveled alleys, looking around every dumpster and every pile of debris heaped up for burning, under all the parked cars and trucks, behind each wall and under the many conduits that carry hot air and water from one part of the plant to another.
We counted 25 dogs on the premises, an area so large that most Romanian towns would fit entirely within the fenced and hedged steel mill boundaries. The complex includes more buildings than most Romanian towns, and bigger buildings, too.
PAUL VISITED AND ADOPTED LITTLE DRACULA FROM ROLDA
My name is Paul Seigel. I am Dana Costin’s and the Romanian League in Defense of Animals’ (ROLDA) fundraiser.
I have just returned home to Florida (along with an adopted puppy named Romy) from spending time with Dana and her volunteers, staff, and veterinarian – and visiting her two sanctuaries in Galati.

DVM JACKIE CAMPBELL VOLUNTEERS AT ROLDA IN 2009
My name is Dr. Jackie Campbell. I am an Australian-trained and registered veterinarian. Over the past few months, whilst traveling throughout Eastern Europe, I became aware of the serious problem of street dogs and cats. Many of the homeless animals I saw were malnourished and in need of veterinary attention.
Meet Pia Solvaer, the 19 years old girl who loves animals with passion!
“Coming to Romania it’s like a trip back in time” she said after her first two days staying.
Pia is a beautiful, intelligent, very realistic and organized girl from Norway. She is working back home with people with mental disorders, and use her earnings to come as volunteer to Romania, paying herself the trip.
DVM SARAH HUGHES VOLUNTEERS TO ROLDA IN 2009
Having recently qualified as a vet, and after the stress of final exams, I was looking to take a break and have a change of scene. But I also wanted to put my newly gained qualification to good use. Veterinary volunteer work offered a cheap way of getting away and experiencing another country whilst also being relevant to my degree.

I support Romanian Strays and have become a celebrity spokesperson for ROLDA. Animals suffer there and die on the streets and authorities turn a blind eye. ROLDA is working hard to save lives and change laws to protect animals in this beautiful country.I don't see borders when it comes to saving lives. Won't you join me in support of such a needed organization in Romania?
