1. Transport from UK to ROLDA shelters in Galati !
First load of collected dogs items leaved Oxford,UK to Romania two weeks ago, thanks to huge efforts made by our sincere ,unique friend ; ROLDA Representative in UK, Mrs Veronica Titchener !
The second load of goods is waiting in the UK warehouse for the next delivery, hopefully this will be happening within the next weeks.
It arrives in the best possible moment ,due to freezing condition from here ,it's like a gift from Heaven for our furry friends !
I know that there are so many wonderful people around her and supporting our cause, involved in collecting/delivering stuffs from UK to Romania and I am grateful to all and each of you for this amazing, noble attitude!
Related to UK-Romania transportation, I want to mention at least some names that helped us during the years and made amazing efforts for and with us to change Romanian homeless animals situation: Mr. Robert and his Romanian charity, "Fundatia pentru Protectia Cainilor Comunitari" helping us in the past 4+ years with FREE transportation from UK to Romania and with temporarily FREE storage place !
Special "thank you" goes to Mar for collecting items for ROLDA dogs in Kent area ; to Trudi for collecting and offering storage place for donated dogs stuffs in Dover area ,to Burnham House Veterinary Surgery and to our doggies' special friends, Moyna,Annabell,Lionel .
Our friends from Freshfields Sanctuary (Liverpool) who volunteer their time last fall at ROLDA shelter, collected useful doggies related stuffs ;plus they offered to drive and pick up supplies from Dover and deliver to Veronica, in Oxford area.
This long way couldn't be done without our greatest drivers, Kate and Laura from Liverpool !
We are very proud and happy to let our supporters know that following an appeal, we helped with free UK-Romania transportation another Romanian shelter ; in this way even more dogs in need were helped !
And everything, thanks to your generosity and compassion !
Our friend from Norway, Tina made us a huge surprise: she announced us that she is trying to reserve again a stand for the charitable auction selling in favor of ROLDA dogs !
She helped us by selling ROLDA 2008 calendars in December and January months, raising over 1,300 Euro !
Many thanks to Geanina for publishing articles periodically in Arcelor Mittal internal newspaper named "Impreuna"(in Romanian/translation "Together"); thanks to her articles, our thoughts are shared with Mittal factory' workers for a better cooperation in animals' best interest.
Thanks to Mr.Robert S. generosity, we continue to benefit of FREE transportation from UK to Romania.
Our representative , Veronica will be more than happy to hear from you and give details about how you can send supplies for our dogs in need. You can send boxes with goods from your UK address to Veronica's ,she kindly storage everything until the next load will be ready to leave UK to us.
If you can to respond to our appeals and start a dogs items& blankets collection for ROLDA in your area, please get in touch with our UK representative for more details !
Her phone no. is:+44 01235 848893
We need blankets, dog toys , dog treats , puppy milk replacer formula, kennels for transportation, dog beds (all size)...every kind of dog item that you can spare of -if you represent a shelter and you have a bigger quantity of donated items, our UK representative ,Veronica has enough storage place until the next transportation is loaded and leaving to us.
If you are a company (e.g. dog food supplier) and want to donate dry or canned dog food, please contact us or Veronica !
Now it's YOUR chance to help countless ROLDA souls in desperate need with minimal costs for you !
2. Azorica adopted in Holland !Our new collaboration with the "Doggy Rescue Foundation" seems promising from the very beginning.
Patrick -the foundation representative (and all the staff) done everything to promote Romanian strays cause and attract sponsors, volunteers, and adoptive families.
For Christmas, they made financial efforts to design and print some lovely cards that couldn't pass unnoticed.
His efforts from months and our hopes finally had the first positive results:
Azorica is one of the dogs listed on our "Adopt a stray! " website section, sheltered at ROLDA from few months and looking for a good, loving family to offer her a new chance !
She is extremely friendly with people, other dogs and cats,3 years old and very sweet; spayed and with all veterinary papers in good order.
Sending her in Holland wasn't an easy thing to arrange ...

There was a Dutch family willing to adopt our beauty ,but the costs to use airline services from Bucharest to Amsterdam were very high, so we almost loose hope regarding her adoption...when the miracle happened: one (half Dutch and half Romanian) family visiting shortly Galati and seeing ROLDA shelter ;hearing the story of Azorica -decided to change the bad luck that our furry baby had so far and offered to take her in their family SUV for FREE to their home in Rotterdam.
There, our Dutch Representatives, Patrick & Tineke transported her further to her new adoptive mom to Bovenkarspel,30 Km from Amsterdam.

The good news don't stop here: impressed by the good conditions that ROLDA shelter offers to abandoned animals ,the young Dutch couple decided to promote our worthy cause back home through their own veterinary clinic from Rotterdam !

It is said that everything happen for a reason in our lives and for sure, Azorica 'destiny was to find eventually the loving family she dreamed for all her life !
Special thanks goes to Johan , Carmen, Tineke and Patrick ...we couldn't make Azorica' dream become true without YOU !
There are many Dutch families already interested about adopting ROLDA dogs listed on our adoption webpage (www.rolda.org/adopt.htm)
The problem is right now the transportation from Galati to Amsterdam (we have our hands full with local projects) and they don't have yet a van to come and pick up the dogs. Until a solution will be found, we need to send the dogs by airplane, which is an expensive alternative.
We would be very grateful if someone please can communicate us if there are European "donate air miles" programs or if the US and Canadian known "donate air miles" systems function if both destinations are European(e.g. sending dogs from Romania to Holland or Germany)
Spay/neuter updates for January month,2008statistics 2008 | January |
Spay/neuter | 82 |
Treatments | 56 |
The animals spayed/neutered and treated are mostly from Mittal company' garden in Galati .( Mittal is the World leading steel producer and its company permises in Galati "hide" over 2,000 strays)
Our priority in this moment is saving and spay/neuter as many animals as possible from there, to avoid further mass-killing "solutions".
After almost one year of discussions and negotiations with ROLDA, Mittal directors agree to work humanely in solving the strays overpopulation problem; this problem exists within Mittal garden, as part of Galati overall strays problem. The real responsible are the local authorities, incapable to find efficient solution after over 18 years of "attempts".
Our goal is to prove to everyone that murdering of innocents animals is not a solution to stop overpopulation. Spay/neuter proves efficient in time.
That's way we are making now an appeal :please forward this message to people/organizations/corporations that might help us: foreign international veterinaries are always welcomed to help us done as many sterilizations as possible; international volunteers(to socialize with the dogs, help us with kennels cleaning,...)
We are working with English speakers, local veterinaries DVM Gingarasu Cornel & Iulia. They would be happy to exchange experience with international vets about new surgery techniques or new medication use for the benefit of the animals !
Please contact us if you are interested in becoming a volunteer !
