Newsletter - March 2008

Dear ROLDA supporters and friends,

Please take few moments to read the update on our work and the news about Galati homeless animals!

The photos enclosed in this newsletter were made during February month, it shows some of the dogs collected from Mittal steel plant and transported in our new built shelter.

ROLDA dog catchers were trained to use humane methods when catching the animals, in order to do this activity in the most secure and less stressful manner for the animals!

Our staff is wearing protection gloves and sometimes use the pole to capture the dogs. Most of the time, we make appeals to Mittal company staff to help us catching without pain and as less stressful as possible the strays.

We avoid using tranquillizers as much as possible because of the high risks involved .

Special thanks are going to Mrs & Mr.Ginagarasu for their huge efforts to sustain our activity and for their professionalism in dealing with every stray case.

During February month, 49 spay/neuters and 38 treatments (skin infections, tumors removal, ears& eyes infections, different other infections requiring immediate treatment) were done.

ROLDA Adoption Center is built so far with 90% financial assistance coming from Mittal company , the rest of 10% representing sponsorship and donations from local companies and individuals from Galati and abroad.

We already have 4 paddocks (40 kennels) accommodating 200 strays and within the next days two more paddocks of 20 kennels will be ready to be used .

Dealing with a continuously growing number, we choose a convenient method for dog identification, beside the tattoo(made at the veterinary office).

Each kennels accommodates 4-5 dogs.

We contacted a US supplier that made a good discount for our order of 5 different colors of dog collar, each color placed on the register will mean a dog in each kennel.

The register will be updated periodically ,for every de-worming and vaccination.

Thanks to donations of supplies coming from our wonderful supporters (loads of blankets) our dogs survived during the extreme temperatures!

Moreover, most of them discovered since they are in our care the taste of special treats and biscuits! All treats were collected at our friend 'place, Mrs.Veronica Titchener and transported FREE in Romania thanks to Mr. Robert S.

These are just a part of the sheltered dogs passing through winter better, thanks to your care !

Our dogs always need and gratefully would love to receive blankets, dog beds, dog bowls, toys, treats and biscuits ,anything else that you consider useful for an animal shelter and you can spare of!

We remind our supporters from Europe that we have now two "collection points" for ROLDA animals:
