ROLDA DOGS THOUGHTS

The ROLDA shelter dogs ” heard” the  bad news because of the global economic crisis ,affecting local employees and our main sponsor employees.

The ROLDA dogs did not understand most of the words, because they are after all only dogs. But they understood the anxious faces, the worried tones of voice, the shoulders already hunched against the winter cold, the growls of bellies anticipating hunger, and the taste of fear.

The ROLDA doggies want you to know that they care. No animal is more empathic or sympathetic than a dog. When people are sad, worried, cold, hungry, and frightened, a dog will always share their feelings.

A dog will comfort, clown, bark away devils either real or imagined, always wag a tail for you, and tell you in every way a dog can that you are wonderful, no matter what anyone else says.

Dogs ask for the food scraps and offal that no human will eat, and the place in our homes farther from the fire than any human sits.

In return, they will give us their boundless love -- and even more important in hard times, they will give us hope.

No dog ever stops hoping. No matter how harsh life is, no matter how cold and hungry a dog is, no matter how cruelly a dog has been treated, the dog always anticipates that tomorrow will be a better day, and the next person will be kinder.

A dog refuses to believe the worst in any circumstance -- because a dog knows that a wagging tail and a play-bow and bouncing around in circles can make anyone laugh, and give anyone a reason to get up, shake off fear and depression, and keep on going, with the dog racing on ahead to scout the way, and then running back to share encouragement.

The ROLDA doggies want you to know that they do not wish to add to anyone's burdens. When times have been so hard and people have been so frightened of the future that they abandoned their dogs, and left them outdoors in wind and the snow, without food or water, these dogs always found their own ways to survive, and did not take
the human desperation personally. They would still welcome those people with wagging tails, and forgive everything, because it is any dog's nature to forgive.
