Back in 2004 Animal People visited ROLDA small shelter which was scored among other 17 shelters around East Europe and rated the best.
Since than, ROLDA communicated very well with Merritt Clifton which sustained us and offer valuable advices about shelter design and general administration.

On 4 March Merritt Clifton came in Romania for a short trip ,which was transformed into a marathon to visit 6 shelters that were evaluated and scored. One of the projects that impressed Merritt is Fiducia shelter located in Reghin:” A highlight was visiting a small shelter with no money at all, built with scrap wood, but in a very intelligent manner that  most shelters I have visited anywhere could learn from. “

 
Fiducia is administrated by a local 74 years old woman which have VERY limited resources but huge knowledge about dogs behavior and which generates with very little funds much happiness and security for her rescued dogs.
Fiducia scored 70 points which is very well, without taking into account the lack of everything that these people face but also comparing with shelters that spend millions and don’t reach half of it in terms of  dogs ‘5 main freedoms.

Since 2009 Fiducia is and now remains the only Romanian other charity that we are supporting for the present ,I would encourage everyone interested to contact either Merritt for more impressions or me for details/photos for possible support this worthy group.

Next to the Fiducia shelter there is the Reghin local pound, but administrated also by Fiducia foundation’s people. In Merritt’s opinion this is the best pound in Romania he saw much better than other pounds even from Bucharest.
Fiducia pound scored 51 points.

The second shelter built with Mittal support scored 67 points because it’s still unfinished and need still some improvements. Merritt’s visit at this shelter premises means a lot to ROLDA and our dogs future because his very good observation and advices will mean a lot of work to be done for us to make this place more attractive to visitors and to the dogs sheltered.

 Another local charity’s dogs shelter scored 47 and the biggest problem was that no worker/staff was available to answer questions about the dogs condition.

Than we visited a great animal lover from town, Valerica’ s shelter which scored only 32 but this is not a shelter open to the public because mainly this woman rescue dogs in distress and dogs from the other local shelter and help them all their lives the best she possible can.
The most pleasant news for me was Merritt’s visit to the small ROLDA shelter which was constantly improved since the last visit of Animal People in Romania.After being re-evaluated in 7 March this place not only that remains the best shelter in Eastern Europe but also it was scored higher having a total of 84 points.

During his entire stay Merritt Clifton was eager to evaluate the best possible the current situation of Romania animals: dogs, cats, horses and donkeys. And to help with very competent and accurate solutions everyone which asked for his support.

CONFERENCE FOR ROLDA HELPING ROMANIAN ANIMALS IN SWISSE

On 19 February in a very rainy cold evening animal lovers from Monthey, Switzerland join together to hear about Romanian animals problem and ROLDA. The conference is the first event in history organized for a single Romanian charity and brought passionate animal supporters, even some local sponsors thanks to the huge efforts that our friend Marie made to attract people, including a very famous Suisse activist- Lolita M, the  Miss Universe in ‘82 ,that is well-known all over the country for her campaigns to help animals Worldwide.

As a result of this event, Marie and I decided to register ROLDA in Swisse and have in our team possibly Lolita or another celebrity as a spokesperson for Romanian animals cause.Marie can be used as a contact person for Swisse,I completely trust in her and her capabilities to help ROLDA rescued animals.
We also will apply to be able to transport dogs for adoption in the country and held the next fundraising event later in summer in Geneva or Lausanne where more supporters to be attracted by our plea for help.

We left Swisse with lots of products for the dogs and important quantity of dog food stored at Marie’s warehouse but we have to figure out a solution to make regular transports from there here.
